1. Vitamin A
Vitamin A is important, not just because it’s at the beginning of the alphabet but because it promotes strong development.
Your child will go through multiple growth spurts throughout the first 20 years of their life. During this time, their bones, muscles and tissues will need the help of vitamin A to grow and repair itself.
Vitamin A is found in yellow and orange vegetables, as well as milk, eggs and cheese.
2. Vitamin B
It’s easy to get confused about the vitamin Bs; there are eight of them! For children and young adults, you should focus on B2, B3, B6 and B12.
These vitamins have many different responsibilities. They help with metabolism, blood circulation, energy levels and the nervous system.
Look for them in eggs, chicken, milk, nuts, beans, fish and cheese.
Iron is so important, especially for girls who are menstruating. Its responsibility is to help transport oxygen in red blood cells throughout the body.
You can find it in red meats, spinach, beets, meat and more.
Calcium and vitamin D are two minerals that children usually lack. Calcium aids in the development of healthy bones, which is crucial for children who seem to always fall down.
You can find it in a lot of dairy products, and some juices are fortified with it as well.
5. Vitamin D
Vitamin D goes hand in hand with calcium. They work together to help the bones and muscles. Without vitamin D, the body has trouble absorbing calcium. The best source of this vitamin is through exposure to sunlight.
Be careful when giving your child supplements with this vitamin, however. It can be toxic in large doses.
6. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Lastly, are the amazing fatty acids. These are found in fish oils and seeds. They help promote cardiovascular health and a strong brain.
If your child isn’t eating fish twice a week, they might not be getting their recommended amount and should take a supplement.
